Walking & Cycling

If you enjoy walking and cycling then you won’t get bored. You will find 60 km of walking and cycling paths! Didn't bring a bike? We got you covered. You can rent bikes at the park, ranging from mountain bikes to e-bikes. Dozens of bird species nest in the Schoorlse Duinen, there are sand lizards and beautiful wild mushrooms. If you are not scared of a bit of climbing and descents, then you will find the highest dunes in the Netherlands here. Don’t forget to climb the 51-metre-high climbing dune. It is a versatile nature reserve with forest, dunes and heaths.

Mountain biking

Speed through the dense pine forest, down steep dunes and vast heaths in the Schoorlse Duinen. Here you can take the ‘Schoorl Mountain Bike Trail’. Fancy a challenge? Then you can go for hefty climb here. The Schoorlse Nok is the highpoint at 48 metres. Speed round tight bends and jump over obstacles. Gorgeous views, a shot of adrenaline and fast descents guaranteed!

Eat out in the vicinity of the park

In the vicinity, there are many lovely spots where you can go for a bite to eat and a drink. Visit Bergen or the village of Schoorl where you can enjoy one of the many outdoor cafés. We are happy to give tips for places to eat.

Eat out in Schoorl

  • De Berenkuil: pavilion located in the middle of the Schoorl forest. A great place to enjoy a cup of coffee with a tasty treat during your bike tour or walk. You can also have lunch there. Added bonus: your dog is welcome too, they will provide a bowl of water and a treat.
  • De Viersprong: a cosy family hotel, in the middle of nature. You can have breakfast, lunch and/or dinner here.
  • ’T Trefpunt: from this restaurant you have a wonderful view of the famous climbing dune. After a climb, you can relax with a drink and snack. From pancakes to pizza, there is plenty of choice!

Eat out in Bergen

  • Loetje: you can’t miss this striking building opposite the wonderful Ruïnekerk! Here you can have a drink either indoors or outdoors, with a view of the charming village square. Loetje is known for its delicious steaks.
  • Fabels: a fun and lively meeting place, opposite the old Ruïnekerk. Inside, there is a big bar where you can also have a bite to eat. You can also sit in the conservatory with a view of the back garden. While enjoying your food, you can admire the art hanging on the walls.
  • Julie’s: located in the middle of the square in Bergen, you will find Julie’s restaurant. It’s a great place for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Or just pop by for a cup of coffee or a relaxing drink.

A swimmingly good time in the sea or pool

You will find Bergen aan Zee at only 7 km from the park, where you can go swimming in nice weather and then warm yourself up afterwards in the sun. Make a beach day of it! To go swimming indoors, you can visit Alkmaar and go to the ‘Hoornse Vaart’ swimming pool, only a 15-minute drive from the park. It’s a great place for doing some quiet laps or for relaxing in one of the hot tubs. Ready for some thrills? Then whizz down the giant slide with sound and light effects. There is also a wave pool and a water playground for the little ones. In the summer, you can swim in the outdoor pool with a sunny meadow. Have fun swimming!


The kids can have fun and games in the playground at the park. Furthermore, the dunes are one big playground, where you will even find a 51-metre-high climbing dune! It’s great for the kids (and adults too) to run up and then roll/run all the way back down again. It’s also a great place for playing in the sand. With the sand and dunes in your back garden, the kids won’t get bored for a second.
