Eating, shopping or a trip to the coast and the artists’ village of Bergen, visit the cheese market in Alkmaar or go shopping for a day in Amsterdam. No less than three North Holland gems in the vicinity of the park.

If you enjoy walking and cycling then you won't get bored. You will find 60 km of walking and cycling paths! Didn't bring a bike? We got you covered. You can rent bikes at the park, ranging from mountain bikes to e-bikes. Dozens of bird species nest in the Schoorlse Duinen, there are sand lizards and beautiful wild mushrooms. If you are not scared of a bit of climbing and descents, then you will find the highest dunes in the Netherlands here. Don’t forget to climb the 51-metre-high climbing dune. It is a versatile nature reserve with forest, dunes and heaths.
 Food and drinks
In the vicinity, there are many lovely spots where you can go for a bite to eat and a drink. Visit Bergen or the village of Schoorl where you can enjoy one of the many outdoor cafés. We are happy to give tips for places to eat.
 Swimming
You will find Bergen aan Zee at only 7 km from the park, where you can go swimming in nice weather and then warm yourself up afterwards in the sun. Make a beach day of it! To go swimming indoors, you can visit Alkmaar and go to the ‘Hoornse Vaart’ swimming pool, only a 15-minute drive from the park. It’s a great place for doing some quiet laps or for relaxing in one of the hot tubs. Ready for some thrills? Then whizz down the giant slide with sound and light effects. There is also a wave pool and a water playground for the little ones. In the summer, you can swim in the outdoor pool with a sunny meadow. Have fun swimming!
 Kids
The kids can have fun and games in the playground at the park. Furthermore, the dunes are one big playground, where you will even find a 51-metre-high climbing dune! It’s great for the kids (and adults too) to run up and then roll/run all the way back down again. It’s also a great place for playing in the sand. With the sand and dunes in your back garden, the kids won’t get bored for a second.

That too is possible in Bergen aan Zee. Meanwhile, the town of Alkmaar, famous for its cheese, is located just 15 minutes away. Don't forget to visit the traditional cheese market!
