Surroundings Villapark de Weerribben

At over 10,000 hectares, Weerribben-Wieden National Park is the largest continuous bog in Northwest Europe. A labyrinth of pools, lakes, canals, mysterious moor woods, expansive reed plots and grasslands abounding with flowers. It is a breeding ground for exceptional plant and animal species and a base for sailing, cycling, and walking visitors.

On the border of Zwolle you can find the sculpture garden Anningahof Estate. The ponds, wild flowers and meadows see new exhibitions every year, displaying both indoors and outdoors statues that show the development of Dutch modern sculpture from 1960 to today.

You can imagine yourself in extraordinary worlds and go on expedition in WILDLANDS Adventure Zoo Emmen. Experience adventures amongst the elephants and monkeys in the tropical jungle, with the fur seals and polar bears in the icy Arctic or opt for a trip on the hot savannah. Quiet and relaxed or cool and exciting, everything is possible.

This museum houses one of the most beautiful collections of minerals and fossils in the Netherlands, collected from the womb of mother earth. Among the many rarities you can find here are the biggest egg in the world, an Amethyst Geode from Brazil and a petrified tree trunk from the US.

You will come especially close to nature at this special dairy farm in Friesland. Under expert guidance, you will go on an excursion around the farm, dressed in farmers overalls. Next you will go into the meadows on foot to visit cows like Sjoukje, Hiltsje and Bertha. These sensitive animals love to cuddle, so you will relax as well, up against the warm body of one of these cows. An experience that you will not forget easily! Do you prefer something more sporty? Here you can also play fierljeppen, farmer’s golf or knob stick hockey. End your day with a delicious cup of coffee, high tea, lunch or barbecue.

Put on your skates and hop on the rink of Thialf. On the track where top-class athletes broke records, you can skate a round for yourself! This includes the famous 400-meter track, a 333-meter track and the scribble track for the very little ones. Afterwards, hot chocolate is waiting for you to warm you back up.

Belvédère Museum is located at the edge of the historical forested landscape park Oranjewoud. The museum is the home of Frisian and North-Netherlands artists and strives to display their work in relation to the work of kindred spirits from the Netherlands and abroad. The museum has two large exposition halls and a central museum cafe that offers a view of the Oranjewoud Estate, the former country house of the Dutch royal family.

Sub-tropical waterpark Swimfun always offers entertainment. Feeling adventurous? Then swish down the slide with a beautiful starry sky or down the 50-meter-long Magic Oval. The crazy river takes you through the jungle and dark caves. Afterwards, you can fully unwind on the terrace or in the wellness facilities, such as the Turkish herbal and steam baths and the infrared sauna.

In the Kameleon village, you can experience the stories of Hielke and Sietse, the skippers of the Kameleon, all year round. Come aboard and sail along in the Kameleon, survive on the adventure island and wander through the streets of Lenten. A day filled with fun for young and old!

At Swoll Sauna Thermen you can completely relax. The sauna is located in a beautiful natural environment on a farm that houses many secrets. In the English landscape garden you can enjoy a romantic, park-like landscape with surprising vistas from one of the recliners or rocking chairs.

A visit to the Memorial Centre Camp Westerbork is educational and impressive. This museum tells you all about the life of victims and survivors of the camp. Exhibitions with personal stories and films make the story of camp Westerbork suitable for children as well. Additionally, many activities are organized in the museum and walking routes have been plotted over the entire terrain.
