Danish record summer comes to an end

In Denmark, the summer of 2023 was historic in many ways. There had never been so much rain in July before as in 2023 and we had never received so many guests at Landal GreenParks' Danish holiday parks.

Throughout the winter, it seemed that summer would bring a record number of foreign guests to our Danish holiday parks, but that was far from the case. The massive depreciation of the Norwegian krone hit the entire tourism industry hard and Norwegians, who otherwise spend a lot of money, suddenly became very price-conscious. The Dutch and Germans seemed to prioritise travelling south. Despite the heatwave and forest fires, the post-COVID-19 excitement was high. For Landal GreenParks, this resulted in a decrease in the number of international guests during the summer by almost 10%, saved by strong interest from Belgian guests thanks to the launch of marketing activities in Belgium for Denmark.

For Danish guests, who are and remain the backbone of Danish parks, the story is vastly different. For a long time, we were at the same level as 2022 for summer bookings, but we had never seen more last-minute demand for both short and long holidays than this year. Thanks to numerous upgrades to our online campaigns, our website and a Contact Centre, we managed to achieve almost twice as many last-minute bookings during the summer as before. Overall, we ended the summer months with 15% more Danish guests than last year.

The rest of the year is also looking particularly good and all Danish Landal parks are ahead in both overnight stays and revenue, so we are confident not only that Q3 will be historic, but that Q4 will be too.
