Helmets are compulsory for children

If you are going to Austria this year for your winter sports holiday, it is important to know that it is compulsory for children aged 14 and younger to wear a helmet. This is in response to an accident involving a German politician and a woman who lost her life. All the alpine states have agreed on this rule and it is now up to the government to put it into law.

The parent or relevant adult is responsible for ensuring this rule is adhered to. They must ensure their children wear helmets. It is not yet known whether penalties or punishments will be imposed when this rule is infringed. However, to avoid any problems, it would be a sensible precaution for you and your children to always wear a helmet when you go skiing!
