Next to the beautiful water-rich environment, Friesland is also a great province to explore on foot. The various hiking trails provide endless enjoyment through the varied landscape. If you are staying at Landal Esonstad, you can make a great mudflat trip from various starting points on the Friesland coast. It takes about 30 minutes to drive to Holwerd from where various trips are organised. Take a hike over the Wadden or walk to Ameland or Schiermonnikoog.
Hiking in Friesland
Friesland has four types of landscape: Waddeneilanden (Wadden Islands), the Terpenland (mounds country), the Friese Wouden (Frisian Woods) and the Het Lage Midden (the Low Middle). You can have an adventurous mudflat walk to Terschelling, Ameland and Schiermonnikoog. Friesland also offers endless kilometres of sea dykes, inviting you to go for a walk, looking out over the sea.
