North Holland, The Netherlands

Getting a breath of sea air and cycling among the dunes. Noord-Holland is renowned for its diversity of beaches, water, dikes, polders, dunes, areas of natural beauty, fields full of flower bulbs and picturesque villages. The lakes, navigation canals and locks form a network throughout the entire province. And we shouldn’t forget the North Sea and the IJsselmeer. So there is plenty of water for all forms of water sport. Experienced surfers can have fantastic fun in the raging surf, while sailors enjoy the natural surroundings of the lakes and locks or head for open waters. Motor boat travellers set out fairytale city routes and canoeists penetrate deep into the most unspoilt waters of Noord-Holland. Not only is there a great deal to do for the active water sports enthusiast, the North Sea coast is a real paradise for the hardened beachgoer with its wide beaches and beautiful sand dunes. You can also enjoy a wonderful visit to Julianadorp, one of the peaceful seaside resorts. Naturally, there are museums with a real focus on water, such as the See Aquarium in Bergen, the Ships in Bottles Museum in Enkhuizen and the Marine Museum in Den Helder. A day on the island of Texel is of course another of the possibilities. And you are guaranteed to succumb to the ‘island mentality’ after you set foot ashore…
